The Fall Youth Field Hockey program is specially designed to introduce young players in Kindergarten through 6th Grade to the fun game of field hockey.
Sessions are once a week for a 7 to 8 week period, allowing our youngest athletes the opportunity to explore the sport of field hockey while continuing with their other activities.
The curriculum focuses on developing basic field hockey skills using fun drills and small-sided games. Emphasis is placed on individual possession skills (ball control) and elimination skills (dodging defenders) as well as pushing and receiving skills (elementary team play).
Developmental level field hockey is designed for players in grades K-2. Regular league play begins with players in grades 3-6. Sessions reinforce basic stick and passing skills as well as offensive and defensive skills and positioning. Weekly practices/games are held over a 7 to 8 week season.
Girls are not required to attend all sessions to participate in the program.
Required Equipment: Outdoor Field Hockey Stick**, Shin Guards, Mouth Guard, Goggles (Grades 3-6)
** Field hockey sticks are available for use on site.
Note that registrations for players not residing in Pine-Richland are limited to 25% of total registrations. Email Donna Stephenson at coachsteve@prfieldhockey.com to be considered for participation.
